Hungry Horse seeks pub-licist to drink beer and get paid for it

Hungry Horse

Something for the weekend: Hungry Horse is looking for the UK’s first-ever ‘pub-licist’ to drink beer, take part in pub quizzes and play pool, all while getting paid for the privilege.

Yes, the official job title is actually ‘pub-licist’. The pub chain, which has 39 establishments across the UK, is offering a £500 salary for a spokesperson to sample the latest drink selection and make a number of visits to their local Hungry Horse hostelry in order to provide feedback and recommendations to help make their pub the best in the country.

Applicants, says the job ad, should know their cask from their craft, be a pro at pub quizzes and be a key player in pub sports tournaments.

It adds: “The ultimate pub-lover will be put through their paces to ensure they get the most out of their role and help to make their local Hungry Horse stand out from the competition.”

Job hopefuls have until 13 November to apply and explain why they have what it takes to tuck into pub grub, sip the drinks selection and throw themselves into the activities enjoyed by their local pub-going community.

Penny Smith, general manager at the Mallard, a Hungry Horse pub in Doncaster, said: “Nothing beats the atmosphere and camaraderie of a local pub, and it really is the guests who make it such a great place to be.
