Ministry of Justice provides full sick pay for outsourced cleaners

Cleaners at The Ministry of Justice (MOJ), who are employed by facilities management provider OCS Group, will receive full sick pay if they have to self-isolate due to the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.

The MOJ has also confirmed that any outsourced cleaners who have taken sick leave due to the pandemic since 1 April 2020 will receive backdated sick pay.

The employees’ representative, United Voices of the World (UVW), reached an agreement with the MOJ following six days of strike action by cleaners and security guards. Negotiations are currently ongoing regarding full sick pay for non-Coronavirus-related sick leave.

A spokesperson at the MOJ said: “We are extremely grateful to all the staff that have ensured our buildings remain safe for those who cannot work from home.

“We hope the fact that outsourced cleaners are now able to self-isolate on full pay will provide financial reassurance.”
