Carmarthenshire council boosts voluntary benefits offering

Carmarthenshire County Council has provided its 9,500 members of staff with a selection of voluntary benefits in an effort to boost motivation, reduce absence and help attract a high calibre of employees to the organisation.

The voluntary benefits have been provided by Vectis and include retail discounts, reductions on the cost of hotels, car parking and visitor attractions and access to discounted private medical insurance (PMI).

The organisation has also secured a discount of 33% on a Bupa PMI product for staff.

Huw Parsons, marketing manager for the council, said: “A lot of our staff want local deals so Vectis incorporated these into the scheme alongside national deals. We want to support local business and this is a form of promotion for them.”

The benefits went live at the start of November and are being communicated on the council’s intranet site in both English and Welsh. Staff then register for benefits either over the phone or on the Vectis internet site.

Details of the scheme were communicated to staff via literature sent out with their payslips during the last two weeks of November.
