In this paper, we are not asking whether retirement itself is an outdated concept that needs to be retired – a subject deserving of a paper in itself. Rather we are discussing here what is happening now, and needs to happen in the near and medium term, in the ‘at retirement’ market. What products, processes and guidance do we need now, and in the future, to deal with the challenge of spending our defined contribution (DC) savings pots – the ugly decumulation word.
