Tasmanian island seeks chief wombat cuddler

Something for the weekend: Australia’s Flinders Island is seeking a suitable candidate to cuddle its wombat resident Derek.

The Tasmanian government’s tourism marketing agency, Tourism Tasmania, is running a competition to appoint the chief wombat cuddler.

While the lucky winner’s key responsibility will be cuddling the cute marsupial – a pretty great work perk in itself – they will also have the opportunity to explore Flinders Island.

The competition will close on 16 April, and, sadly, it is only open to Australian residents. As Tourism Tasmania notes: “Non-cuddlers need not apply.”

At the Employee Benefits headquarters we are disappointed that we are not eligible to apply for the chief wombat cuddler role, although this adorable video of Derek does somewhat make up for it…
