Podcast: Scania makes employee health a focal point in its benefits strategy

Listen: At transport solution provider, Scania Great Britain, one of its main reward focal points is to ensure that the benefits it provides offer value and support to its workforce.

Clare Booth, people and culture director at Scania Great Britain, explains how the organsiation has promoted its family-friendly benefits to its predominantly male workforce, to ensure all employees are aware of how the employer can support their work-life balance.

Another key focus for Scania has been to ensure employees have access to healthcare and wellbeing support that suits their different lifestyles, and is available when they need it. Booth explains how the organisation took steps to address employee sickness and any issues around health anxiety among staff through the provision of benefits such as its employee assistance programme (EAP) and a virtual GP service.

Scania Great Britain provides transport solutions including sales, services and products in its engines, bus, coach and parts businesses.

Scania also offers vehicle financing, insurance and rental services.

It has around 1,700 employees based at six main locations around the UK. Some of the typical job roles are technicians, workshop foreman, service advisors and parts advisors.

It has a range of employees who have been in the business for up to three years, including through its yearly apprentice intake. It also has employees who have reached 30 and 40 years’ service.

Career history

Clare Booth, people and culture director, joined Scania in October 2020. She has more than 15 years’ HR experience across a variety of roles in telecoms, automotive and banking, including head of rewards and people services at Mercedes-Benz, and head of HR at Mercedes-Benz Financial Services.
