John Lewis to pay 55,000 non-management staff £25 extra per week

The John Lewis Partnership will award over 55,000 non-management employees and first-level managers a £25 reward for every week worked in May to June, totalling £200.

The reward will apply predominately to employees in Waitrose shops and working on John Lewis online sites.

This reward means that employees will receive around 11% of their wages in this pay, on top of the 2% bonus that all employees received in March. Employees will also have access to a risen discount in Waitrose stores, rising from 15% to 25% for 13 weeks. After this period, the discount will reduce to 20%.

Additional benefits for employees include a support fund to aid employees who are struggling with additional costs due to the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic. Employees are also being offered free meals whilst at work.

Sharon White, chairman at the John Lewis Partnership, said; “Partners have made significant sacrifices to ensure that we are able to continue to serve and support our customers.

“The measures that we have announced today are in recognition of their hard work and commitment and are part of a wider package of support available to help employees during this extraordinary time. I want to extend my continued thanks to every partner. It is a privilege to be their Chairman.”
