Linklaters has devised a total reward strategy that fits the culture of the organisation but faces challenges from offering a single strategy in a high-pay environment.
Melissa Lever, head of reward at Linklaters, will discuss how the law firm has made one total reward strategy work by communicating the right messages around an employee’s offering, as well as how it adapts the strategy to deal with bigger issues within the firm at Employee Benefits Live on 24 September.
The session ‘Harmonising total reward: The challenges in offering a single total reward strategy’ will cover how total reward works as part of wider HR objectives, and the need to tailor total reward to an organisation’s workforce.
Lever said: “Total reward is very much about making it relevant to an audience. In a law firm pay is a given, so what more can we do to drive the engagement of our peopl?. It is very much a non-cash reward that we have had to make suitable to employees.
“But it is about adapting that strategy to deal with bigger issues. Some of the challenges could be rewarding people for the wrong reason, or [whether] the strategy is inadvertently leading to gender disparity.
“Employers need to look at how it works in terms of their wider HR strategy and make sure it does not function in isolation.”
The organisation links its total reward strategy to different agendas in the firm such as learning, ability and mobility to allow employees to have bigger and better experiences.
