EXCLUSIVE: Asda has given employees a festive thank you, which includes a £20 gift voucher to spend at the grocery store, contributions towards their Christmas party, and a free Christmas lunch.
The thank you is packaged up in a card, which each line manager personally writes to each staff member.
Employees received the card during the week of 5 November. Jane Earnshaw, head of reward and recognition at Asda, said: “The reason they received it early is that we have a special discount event for our employees at the end of November, which gives them more discounts.”

Asda’s 177,000 employees receive a 10% discount on its products, but this will be increased to 20% on 20 and 21 November on certain festive items.
“It is a real feel-good factor for our employees,” said Earnshaw. “It is our busiest trading time, and actually helping our employees at that time is really important to us.”
I’d be interested to know how this has gone down with colleagues who hold different religious beliefs. We recently announced an extra days holiday, free Christmas lunch, and money towards departmental celebrations and received very negative feedback from those who don’t celebrate Christmas. Whilst colleagues can obviously choose whether to use this added perks, the comments were largely centered around us not doing anything like this for other religious festivals. Would be interested to know how such a large employer such as Asda has managed this.
Your so lucky. The company I work for didnt give us anything !!
I got nothing but a pack of sweets.. I work nights.. so in another words your forgotten about.. why the day staff get to have a nice little lunch with cakes and so on.. and the night staff get the scraps like the dogs they think we are… I’m a seasonal so I guess there are different rules. But I received nothing.. not even the bonus.. just over worked and messed about like some modern day slave.. and to top it of I’m never paid right. But I have no problem with the company I guess it’s down to the fat cats that run the place..
