Benefits provider Edenred has been awarded for the environmentally friendly volunteering opportunities it offers to staff.
The Green Apple Awards are run by The Green Organisation, an independent environmental group dedicated to promoting the positive side of sustainable endeavours. Previous winners include the BBC, Carlsberg, Centrica, Coca Cola, E.On and Severn Trent.
Edenred, honoured in the commerce and industry category, was commended in recognition of its aims, achievements and the positive impact its environmental activities have had over the past four years.
Since 2007, the organisation’s staff have participated in a variety of activities, including: planting more than 300 saplings and trees at public sites and schools, river cleaning, removing graffiti, creating a wild flower meadow at a school, and assisting in the creation of an edible playground at a school.
Edenred has organised these events with the charities Thames21, Trees for Cities, the International Tree Foundation, and the London Wildlife Trust.
Patrick Langlois, managing director at Edenred, said: “The Green Apple award recognises Edenred’s continued commitment to the environment, and the positive, hands-on action of our employees.
“Staff across our three sites have taken part in up to four environmental activities a year since our first event in 2007.
“It is a great way to help the environment, but also helps create good working relationships between different departments and all levels of staff.”
