Nearly 140,000 Sainsbury’s employees are to share an annual bonus pot of £80 million.
The annual pot brings the total amount paid in bonuses up to £370 million over the past five years.
Justin King, chief executive of Sainsbury’s, said: “Sainsbury’s is rewarding the hard work of our employees this year with a sector leading bonus pot.

Sainsbury’s has been shortlisted for the award ‘Best total reward strategy’ at the Employee Benefits Awards 2014, which will be held on 27 June in London.

Surely this figure would make more sense if both the average and median levels of payment were disclosed.
