Walker Books is extending its family-friendly benefits to include a one-day office-based workshop for parents of young children to learn how to encourage their children to read.
The seminar, provided by Ready To Learn, will take place during a lunch hour in June, and will offer parents tips on how to encourage children to read more at home and will also show them what their children are supposed to be learning at school in the national curriculum.
Claire Hawk, head of HR, said: “We acknowledge that employees have a life outside of work and I think this is us saying, ‘this isn’t work-related it is something for you and your family’.”
If take up of the seminar is high enough, the publishing firm will run the session again †in the future for working parents. Its other existing family-friendly practices include flexible working arrangements and part-time hours.
