Inchcape Retail UK introduces pay bands and revamps bonus scheme for technicians

Car retailer Inchcape Retail UK has introduced graded pay bands for its 950 UK-based technician staff.

The five pay bands, which will be applicable for technicians working across the organisation’s 100 plus retail centres in the UK, have been introduced to create a consistent approach to pay across the business for this specific job role. Previously, Inchcape Retail UK did not have pay bands for technicians in place.

The introduction of the pay bands will mean over 80% of the organisation’s current technicians receive a pay rise as a result, with hourly rates increasing by an average of 23%.

Inchcape Retail introduced the pay bands as part of an enhanced package for technicians, aimed at helping it to recruit 350 new technicians as well as retain current staff. It has also set working hours to 40 hours a week, and revamped its bonus scheme for these employees so that= monthly bonuses will be based on team, rather than individual, achievements.

The organisation’s existing benefits package also includes a workplace pension scheme, sharesave schemes, childcare vouchers, and retail discounts.

James Brearley (pictured), chief executive officer at Inchcape Retail UK, said: “Our technicians play a critical role in the success of our business and we want to reward them accordingly. So, we’ve listened to their feedback and carried out extensive industry research to create this new package. It demonstrates our ongoing commitment to being the employer of choice for technicians in our industry and will help us to attract even more talented individuals to join Inchcape and our award-winning team.”
