James Purnell has been appointed Secretary of State for Work and Pensions following the resignation of Peter Hain.
Hain stood down from his post as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions following an investigation by police over his failure to declare £103,000 in campaign donations.
Purnell, 37, moves from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport where he was Secretary of State from June 2007. Before he joined the Cabinet, Purnell was Minister of State for pensions reform at the Department for Work and Pensions.
I would like answers to questions like. “Why have I worked for 43 years to date, paid into the system all those years and continue to do so and now have to work until I am 66 3/4”
Why don’t they let me and all others of my age retire at 60 which will free up jobs for the people to move up the ladder and subsequently the youth who want to work and can’t get employment, then they will pay into the system in contributions instead of taking out in benefits.
I feel as though the Government are penalising the very people who have paid fully into the system to support people who have never paid into it!
Blaming equality just does not wash with me, it’s a very convenient excuse to make us work longer and never realise the very pensions we have paid into.
