Permanent staff salaries rise marginally in January

Permanent staff salaries rose only marginally in January while hourly rates of pay for temporary or contract workers increased modestly following a slight decline in December, according to research by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and KPMG.

The Report on jobs research found that, where an increase in permanent salaries was recorded, this was often attributed to higher numbers of senior-level placements and a further increase in permanent staff vacancies.

With regard to the temporary and contract workers’ pay rates, a number of findings from the report showed that pay adjustments were made following the implementation of the Agency Workers Regulations (AWR) on 1 October 2011, which give temporary agency staff the same basis working conditions, including pay, bonuses, working hours and holidays, as permanent staff after 12 weeks’ continuous employment.
