Herbert Smith adds to flex and voluntary benefits schemes

Herbert Smith has added home emergency insurance and a discounted gym membership to its benefits package.

The home emergency insurance, which is provided by Home 3 and is available through the law firm’s flexible benefits scheme, covers plumbing, drainage, heating, electricity/gas supply, security, glazing and pest issues that can arise in a household.

The gym membership, which is provided through Incorpore †as a voluntary benefit, can be accessed through a link from the flex website.

To access the home emergency cover, employees can call a single helpline to reach a nationwide network of qualified tradespeople. Up to £500 is covered per claim. The benefit is employee-paid through a salary sacrifice arrangement within the firm’s flexible benefits scheme.

The law firm’s 1,500 eligible employees, which excludes partners, can choose from two options – the Gold scheme includes all cover except for the primary heating cover and the Platinum scheme covers everything.

The new benefit was launched on 1 January in tandem with the scheme’s latest renewal period.†

The benefit, which already has a take up of 3%, was communicated via a firm-wide email, a desk-drop leaflet and information on the company intranet.

Michelle Bassett, benefits analyst at Herbert Smith, said: “I found out about the new benefits available on the market and then held focus groups with staff to get their views and comments. There was a good interest in that particular benefit.”
