Case Study: Kent County Council
Background
Kent County Council is the county’s largest employer, with more than 44,000 staff. As an ‘Investor in People’, KCC ensure their staff have access to training and development opportunities as well as offering an excellent range of staff benefits and rewards to all eligible employees.
They have created a generous reward and benefit package to help them recruit, retain and motivate their staff and make Kent County Council a great place to work.
Requirements
To ensure that they continue to expand, KCC wanted to adapt their benefits to meet the changing needs of their staff. They wanted to bring their benefits package up-to-date and looked to include a benefit that was universally popular and appeal to their wide range of employees.
Solution
Mobile Salary Saver was launched to KCC employees in September 2006. Jane Vivier, Reward Advisor at Kent County Council recognized the importance of communicating the benefit to employees. Appreciating the need for marketing and employee education, KCC worked with Flexphone to implement a strong and diverse marketing campaign. Well placed and well timed communication helped to raise awareness of the benefit and keep employees interested.
Flexphone attended roadshows at various locations throughout the county, explaining the scheme and providing product demonstrations. Employees were kept informed via both print and electronic media, including email, intranet news alerts, a mailshot to over 18,500 employees and marketing communication packs sent to over 750 Schools and Non-Schools including posters, flyers and brochures.
Employees were able to place their order on the Flexphone shopping website and via telephone to the Customer Service team. With the same Vodafone pricing as found on the High Street, plus tax and NI savings of up to 41%, participants in the scheme are making significant savings on both pay monthly and pre-pay price plans over the 12-month term of the agreement.
Benefits
KCC were provided with the framework for a comprehensive employee communication programme, together with the design and production capabilities for fulfillment. This resulted in a carefully constructed and interesting communication programme to KCC employees.
