EXCLUSIVE: Non-ministerial government department Registers of Scotland has held two benefits fairs for its 1,000 employees in order to promote its new employee benefits platform, existing benefits package and new salary sacrifice benefits.

The benefits fairs were held on 26 and 27 February 2018 at the department’s Edinburgh and Glasgow sites. The fairs were used to promote benefits such as childcare, dental insurance, gym discounts, health screenings and partner health screenings, home technology schemes, payroll giving, holiday buy and sell and a bikes-for-work scheme.

The benefits fairs also showcased Registers of Scotland’s eyecare benefits, which are provided by Specsavers Corporate Eyecare. Local Specsavers employees attended each of the fairs to discuss in-store services, discounts and special offers that are available to both Registers of Scotland‘s employees and their families.

Registers of Scotland held the benefits fairs as part of an initiative to update its reward and benefits offering. This includes implementing a new employee benefits platform through the Crown Commercial Services framework, procuring and introducing new salary sacrifice benefits to feature on the new platform and launching total reward statements. In addition, the government department plans to establish ongoing governance procedures to evaluate its benefits package and employee participation.

The benefits fairs were advertised to employees via the staff intranet, which all employees have access to.

Billy Harkness, corporate director at Registers of Scotland, said: “There is a much wider health and wellbeing message relating to eyecare, which goes far beyond the [display screen equipment] regulations. We are keen to communicate the benefits of eyecare and do so regularly via our internal communications.

“The eyecare management system from Specsavers [Corporate Eyecare] also allows us to check that the evouchers are being redeemed by our employees, so we know they are receiving the care to which they are entitled. The two-day health and wellbeing roadshow is an extension of this commitment and we are delighted that [Specsavers Corporate Eyecare] attended with the vision screener, which really helps to bring the benefit to life.”
