Britvic and Diageo among top 100 UK employers working to close gender gaps

top 100 UK employers

Britvic, C and C Group, Diageo, and Tate and Lyle have been named among the top UK employers on the Women in Work 100 list.

In order to create the list, Women in Work analysed 400 of the largest UK organisations across 24 sectors to compare progress in terms of future-proofed workplaces that maintain high standards of gender equity over the long-term. Employers that make the list have a minimum representation of women on boards of 33%, transparent and public parental leave policies, and a mean or median hourly pay gap under 15%.

Britvic, C and C Group, Diageo and Tate, and Lyle all have a gender pay gap of less than 1%, over 50% women on their boards, and transparent and public parental leave policies.

Women in Work found that 231 employers achieved a mean or median hourly pay gap of less than 15%. Of these, almost half had a mean or median hourly pay gap of under 10% and almost one fifth had a mean or median hourly pay gap of less than 1%.

Almost half (47%) made their parental leave transparent and searchable, including how many weeks they offer at full pay.

Meanwhile, more than three-quarters had a board made up of more than 33% women and almost half had achieved over 40% women on the board. Of these, 74 had more than 50% women on the board.

Mariella Frostrup, co-founder of Women in Work Summit, said: “Employers with inclusive cultures are 63% more likely to boost profitability and those with more women on their boards are 25% more likely to outperform financially. Yet for 12 years after having their first child the gender pay gap for women widens, and the global gender pensions gap stands at 30-40% across the world. At Women in Work, our goal is not to call out employers that are underperforming, but to call in those who are doing it well. It is not only morally vital, but central to business success.”
