Commercial finance organisation Brightstar Financial, energy business Pure Planet and contact centre Stepchange Outsourcing have been recognised as the top three small businesses to work for in 2020.
The Best 100 small companies 2020 list, compiled by The Sunday Times, was announced on 19 February 2020. It lists those organisations with at least 50 full-time employees that have achieved the highest Best Companies Index (BCI) scores.
Businesses are ranked using an accreditation system that assesses the quality of their employee engagement. A three-star accreditation is given to employers with the highest standard of workplace engagement, a BCI score of at least 738, two-star accreditation necessitates a score of at least 696.5, and one star is awarded for scores of at least 659.5. Employers with a score of 600 achieve ‘one to watch’ status.
The top 10 Best small companies 2020 are:
- Brightstar Financial
- Pure Planet
- Stepchange Outsourcing
- Redrock Consulting
- Source Breaker

- The Furniture Practice
Dean Harte, managing director at Redrock, which this year rose from fourth to 11th place, said: “I am absolutely thrilled that Redrock has once again been named as one of the best small companies to work for in the UK, and it is even more exciting to see us move from eleventh to fourth this year.
“The Best companies lists are compiled based on feedback from our employees, so it is extremely gratifying to know that the culture we have been building is appreciated by everyone who works at Redrock. It is not a cliché to say that we could not have won this without them.”
