Brains gives 1,600 early access to furlough pay during Covid-19

Pub and hotel chain Brains is giving its 1,600 employees early access to furlough pay during the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic.

The benefit, which is provided by income streaming service Wagestream, is designed to work alongside the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, helping staff deal with any financial pressures they may be facing during the current climate.

Employees can access up to 50% of their pay within 24 hours by requesting money through an app. Every transaction will be subject to a £1.75 fee.

Kate Ablett, head of people at Brains, said: “We can’t wait to get everyone back to work but while the crisis continues to rumble on, we saw this as one way to bolster the financial resilience of staff.

“Our employees are all coping extremely well and we’re extremely proud of them, but we know some will be facing unexpected expenses. Being able to get their hands on furlough pay ahead of time will give them that extra bit of breathing room should they need it.”
