The BBC has entered into a contract with IBM for the provision of outsourced finance, accounting payroll and associated technology provider.

The contract aims to contribute towards the broadcaster’s efficiency targets, by providing a simplified and efficient service. This will include the introduction of cloud-based technologies to support payroll and expense processes, as well as the use of mobile applications to support remote working.

The switch from existing provider Sopra Steria to IBM will come into effect in November 2016. The technology firm will serve as prime contractor for five years, with an option for a two-year extension.

Ian Haythornthwaite, director of finance at the BBC, said: “We are confident that this contract will bring advantages to the BBC in terms of simplicity and innovation, as well as making a significant contribution to our savings targets.”
