In the Autumn Budget 2017, key announcements included: an increase in the tax-free personal allowance and the higher-rate tax threshold, rises in the company car tax diesel supplement, fuel benefit charge and van benefit charge, an increase to the national living wage, no benefit-in-kind charges for staff who charge their electric vehicles at work, the introduction of an income tax and national insurance contribution (NIC) exemption for accommodation allowances for Armed Forces personnel and the pledge that tax relief for employer premiums paid into life assurance schemes or certain overseas pension schemes will be modernised from April 2019.
